| What does the sizing mean when there's a letter after the number? ie. 2T or 4S |
|
In America now, most of the kid's sizing is done in "ranges", similar to this: 3m, 6m, 9m, 12m, 18m, 24m - months (Baby Gap) 2T (same as 24m in a lot of cases), 3T, 4T, 5T - toddler (Gap/Baby Gap, Osh Kosh, Carters) 4,5,6,6x (Gap, Osh Kosh, Levis) XS (4-5), S (6-7), M (8), L (10-12), XL (12-14) - kids (Gap) etc. Think Pumpkin Patch with it's "6m - 4y" and "5y-11y" sections. Except Pumpkin Patch seem to be slightly more sensible in that they don't overlap anything! Gap, for instance, will create a certain t-shirt and run it in sizes 2T-5T, or they might run it as "4, 5, 6", or they may even run it as "XS (4-5), S (6-7)" etc.. Sometimes they will run the same t-shirt in more than one range - for instance, we have a couple of girl's ls t-shirt styles that are in both "Baby Gap" and "Gap" ranges, but they're the same t-shirt. So theoretically you could go to the "preschool" part of the store and pick up a 5T , and then go to the "kid" part of the store and pick up a 5, and they will be exactly the same. With regard to the "S" or "R", that's usually the Levis and they refer to the width. So "S" is slim and "R" is regular width. BUT - the difference between 6 and 6x is length!! Don’t worry, we're all confused!! I think they think they're helping by having more descriptive sizes, except they all seem to do it differently! |
